Peer-to-peer recognition is an important way for coworkers to recognize and celebrate each other’s success. For more than 20 years, retired U.S. Army Colonel Jon Deason has been a valued member of the Dawson team advising clients in key areas of environmental policy such as wetlands and endangered species protection. Jon’s talent, leadership, and integrity have long been the hallmarks of a career dedicated to serving the public good.
A recipient of many awards and recognitions throughout his career, D&A is proud to share the news of one more distinct honor. Recently, Jon’s graduating class at the United States Military Academy recognized his many years of service to the nation by presenting their “Serve with Integrity” Award. The award moniker reflects his USMA Class motto, “Serve with Integrity ’70”. The accompanying commemorative coin inscription reads, “Presented by your classmates in recognition of extraordinary service honoring the West Point Class of 1970.”
This high praise is made even more special because it comes from Jon’s contemporaries. The award citation reads:
Jonathan Deason (F-4) distinguished himself through exceptional service to the Army, the Nation, and his community. He retired as a colonel from the USAR while filling the position of Reserve Chief of Staff, Army Corps of Engineers. As one of the nation’s leading environmental engineers, he significantly contributed to the water quality and accessibility across the nation while in the Department of the Interior. His efforts resulted in his promotion to the Director of Environmental Policy and Compliance. He then joined George Washington University to pass on his skills to the next generation. In 2015, was appointed Director of the Environmental and Energy Management Institute. Jon is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, has authored over 150 professional papers on the environment and energy, chaired over two dozen national and international conferences, been appointed to over a dozen Federal and international government committees, and served as the academic advisor to 31 doctoral graduates. He has also served as President, Washington Area Roadsters, a non-profit organization to promote safe and enjoyable skating for inner city youths in Washington, D.C.
Congratulations to Dr. Deason on this wonderful and deserved recognition of his career and environmental expertise. Dawson is proud and grateful to have him on our team!
