Our colleague Joe Doddridge passed away recently. Joe joined Dawson & Associates in 2003 after a career that included nearly 15 years in the U.S. Department of the Interior as chief of Staff in the Office of the Assistant Secretary, Fish and Wildlife and Parks.
Everyone who knew Joe knew that he was a gentleman. He was a good listener, patient and kind. He had a great sense of humor and was a solid dependable and knowledgeable person.
I knew Joe for more than 50 years and he was my friend. He was the person I called when I didn’t know what was going on in the Department of the Interior. He was my mentor and my confidant. He actually was my official mentor during the SES Development Course. I could ask him or tell him anything and I knew he would give me great advice.
We especially shared our thoughts and plotted our course forward on a daily basis. We actually switched jobs as I went to the US Fish and Wildlife Service and he went to the Assistant Secretary’s Office. He gave me advice about budget and personnel activities and I gave him advice on National Park Service and US Fish and Wildlife Service land acquisition.
In 2007, Joe told me about a great opportunity. He told me I needed to talk to Bob Dawson about a job at his firm. Great advice! And I have been with Dawson & Associates ever since.
Joe and Jackie moved to Maryland’s Eastern Shore about the same time Donna and I moved there and we took advantage of living near each other. We went to dinner often and even commuted to the Dawson & Associates Annual Christmas Party.
Joe was a constant joy to be around and I miss him. Rest in peace.

Senior Advisor
A member of the Dawson team since 2007, Bill formerly served as Chief of the National Wildlife Refuge System at the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
