Dr. Sandra Knight, former Deputy Associate Administrator at FEMA Joins Dawson

Dr. Sandra Knight joins Dawson & Associates


(Washington, DC) – Dawson & Associates is delighted to welcome Dr. Sandra Knight to our team.


Sandra has more than 30 years of experience with federal disaster policy, flood risk management and marine transportation. Her experience includes serving almost three years as the Deputy Associate Administrator for Mitigation at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).


Sandra led FEMA’s mitigation programs supporting the National Flood Insurance Act and the Stafford Act. Her team led the nation in developing hazard resilient building practices and had oversight over the National Dam Safety Program.


At the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Sandra was the Director of Policy, Planning and Evaluation for NOAA’s Oceanic and Atmospheric Research.


She spent more than 26 years as a hydraulic engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg, MS where she rose to become the Technical Director for Navigation Research.


Her degrees include:

  1. A BS in Civil Engineering (cum laude) from Memphis State University,

  2. An MS in Civil Engineering from Mississippi State University; and,

  3. A PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Memphis.

She is a registered Professional Engineer, State of Tennessee.
