Major Darren Riley at Ft. Leavenworth
This month, I had the heartwarming opportunity to put my uniform back on, travel to Fort Leavenworth and promote our son, Darren, to Major in the US Army. He is an Infantry officer and, typical of many soldiers, recently returned from his fourth deployment. During this latest one, he commanded B Troop of the 4/9 Cavalry Squadron at Fort Hood and in Afghanistan, making that his second tour in Afghanistan, with two others in Iraq.

Darren is now starting a year of further education at the Army’s Command and General Staff College and then hopes to get back in to an Infantry Battalion as operations officer or executive officer.
