Maj. Gen. (Ret) Robert Griffin

Robert’s 35 years in the United States Army culminated with his appointment as Deputy Commanding General and Deputy Chief Engineer of the Army Corps of Engineers, a position he held for two years.
Robert’s time in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has given him extensive experience in federal policies relating to waterway navigation, hydropower, flood damage reduction, environmental restoration, emergency response, regulatory permitting, military programs and acquisition.
In addition to his service as Deputy Chief of Engineers, Robert was the Army’s Director of Civil Works for two years. In this capacity, he oversaw the Corps’ annual $5.5 billion civil works programs. He led the reinvigoration of the planning process to include establishing planning centers of expertise and also led the USACE response during the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center.
Prior to this, Robert was Commander of the Corps Great Lakes and Ohio River Division and the Northwestern Division. He also commanded the 864th Engineer Battalion (Combat Heavy) at Fort Lewis, Washington and during Desert Storm; the Mobile District and was Chief of Staff, Corps of Engineers Headquarters in Washington, DC.
Robert served as a Presidentially appointed member of the Mississippi River Commission from 1997 to 2003.
After 35 years service in the Army, Robert joined CH2M Hill in 2006 as a senior VP and Operations Director in the Government Facilities and Infrastructure business group and retired in December 2014,
