Jonathan is a licensed professional engineer who has authored more than 100 publications in the areas of environmental protection, natural resources and energy management.
As Director of the Office of Environmental Policy and Compliance at the Department of the Interior, Jon managed nine regional offices across the nation and seven Washington, D.C. staff divisions that oversaw the environmental compliance programs of the Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management, Minerals Management Service, Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement, and six other bureaus. He also held five other senior executive and management positions in the Department of the Interior and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during a 28 year federal career.
After leaving the federal government, Jon served as Vice President for Environmental and Educational Affairs at the American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) in Washington, D.C., a federation of 5,000 private companies and public agencies engaged in transportation construction.
Since 1996, he has been a Professor and Director of the Environmental and Energy Management Program at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He also has served a 30 year career as a reserve Army Corps of Engineers officer, the last six years of which he held the position of Chief of Staff (Reserve) at the Corps.
Jon has received a number of awards including the Arthur S. Flemming Award for work related to improving the nation’s water resources, the Founder’s Medal of the National Society of Professional Engineers as the Federal Engineer of the Year, the Engineering Achievement Award of the Virginia Engineering Foundation, a Executive Rank Award from the President of the United States, and designation as a Research Policy Scholar by the George Washington Institute for Public Policy.
