HON. H.L. "SONNY" CALLAHAN

Senior Advisor, When H.L. "Sonny Callahan retired from Congress in 2002, it marked the end of a remarkable career that saw him rise in just 10 years from being a freshman congressman from South Alabama to become one of 13 "Cardinals," so-named because they are the most influential members of the House of Representatives. Elected in 1984, Congressman Callahan was named Chairman of the powerful House Appropriators Subcommittee on Foreign Operations in 1995. During the six years he chaired the committee, Congressman Callahan worked to help our friends and protect America 's interests and investments around the world.

In 2000, he became the chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development. This Subcommittee is responsible for funding all civil projects of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers as well as portions of the Department of the Interior, the Department of Energy and a number of independent agencies. In this position, congressman Callahan worked closely with the Bush Administration to develop and finance a new national energy policy. In addition to holding the chairmanship of the Energy and Water Development Appropriations Subcommittee, he also served as Vice Chairman of Foreign Operations and as a member of the Transportation Subcommittee. Callahan's ability to get things done in congress enabled him to bring home millions of dollars in Federal funding for projects throughout south Alabama.

Following a highly successful career in the business world, Callahan began his political career in the Alabama legislature. He served the people of Alabama for 12 years, and his leadership abilities soon became apparent as he moved from the State House of Representatives to the State Senate.

After 30 years of public service. Sonny Callahan decided to return to his hometown of Mobile , Ala. , and start Sonny Callahan & Associates LLC (SC&A). This organization is comprised of a nucleus of consultants with extensive experience in political and governmental affairs. SC&A also has an affiliation with former Appropriations Chairman Bob Livingston (R-LA), Bob Dawson & Associates, and former Congressman Larry Hopkins (R-KY).
