WASHINGTON, DC - Dawson & Associates today announced that the Honorable Sonny Callahan joined the firm as a Senior Advisor. Mr. Callahan brings a wealth of legislative and business experience to help serve the firm's clients.

Mr. Callahan served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1985-2002, representing Alabama's First District. He becomes the third former chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development to join Dawson & Associates. The subcommittee is responsible for financing all civil projects of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and provides partial funding to the Department of Interior, Department of Energy and various independent agencies.
During his tenure as chairman, Callahan accomplished a great deal both nationally and for Alabama. He was instrumental in accomplishing one of the Bush Administration's top priorities, financing a new national energy policy.
Mr. Callahan also chaired the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Foreign Operations, which is responsible for authorizing funding for U.S. foreign policy. The Subcommittee on Foreign Operations had control over a broad range of programs, including economic and development assistance, narcotics control, and Foreign Military Financing. During his nine terms on the Hill, Mr. Callahan also served on House Transportation Subcommittee, as Assistant Majority Whip.
Prior to serving in Congress, Mr. Callahan was a veteran of the Alabama State Legislature, serving in both the Alabama state senate and house and representatives. He also had a successful career in the private sector as a small businessman. Callahan served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1954. He graduated from the McGill Institute and attended the University of Alabama, Mobile Campus.
