Mike has more than 30 years experience in environmental planning, permitting and compliance, including specialties in energy and mining regulation.

Mike’s career includes regulatory leadership positions for the States of Colorado and Indiana, and at Shell Oil Company.

As CEO of the Indiana Bureau of Mine Reclamation, Mike oversaw the State’s reclamation operations, oil and gas environmental regulations and geological survey.

Mike’s success in Indiana brought him to Colorado, where he spent 10 years as Director of the State’s Minerals and Geology Division. From 1992 to 2002, Mike was responsible for planning and administration involving permitting, inspection and enforcement of State mining activity. He also oversaw operations involving reclamation and environmental laws; development of reclamation projects; and contractor management and superfund cleanup.

In 2002, Mike began a successful 15-year career at Shell Oil Company, primarily working on regulatory analysis and advocacy for Shell’s North American business units. Mike was responsible for all aspects of environmental planning, permitting, and compliance for a major Shell operation, negotiating permits, land use issues and compliance with federal, state and local governments.

He was a leader on Shell’s global biodiversity and ecosystem compliance with environmental and sustainable development requirements.
